Bio

Globally distinguished, singer-songwriter, Zaki Ibrahim has been known to make music ahead of it’s time. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, she is the daughter of a South African father and an British-Scottish mother. Zaki began her musical career by starting the label ‘District Six Music’ to independently release her first EP in 2006.

Songs from Zaki’s vast catalogue placed in the hit show Suits and films; Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls & Mary Goes Round to name a few.

Zaki’s first full length album Every Opposite shortlisted for the Polaris Prize in 2013.

– The song “Money” off Eclectica was nominated for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the JUNO Awards in 2009.
– Direct support for The Roots, Erykah Badu, Saul Williams, Bedouin Soundclash and toured the UK w/ Rich Medina, Black Thought, Ursula Rucker, DJ Spooky and Lord Finesse.
– Won NOW Magazine R&B Artist of the year 2007.
– Zaki’s highly regarded but rarely heard ep Sho (iqra in orange) led to the release of Eclectica under Sony in 2008.
